Apple TV+ | Expectations vs. Reality

Video Duration 00:04:18

Description: Will Apple TV+ meet the hype on day one? Well, I guess that depends on how we are defining hype, because frankly, I haven’t detected a whole lot of it, but hey, that’s where you can come in. Hit the comments below after you watch this video,

Lemme know what your hype level is for Apple TV+, whether it’s low, whether it’s high, let me know, but as with all new streaming services, there’s a lot of gossip, a lot of rumors, and a lot of announcements going around about the service, and so with only a few weeks left for launch,

Which is set for November 1st, I figured now would be a good time to sort out the expectations (dramatic music) from the reality. So, let’s dive in. Now, first of all, don’t forget to subscribe, because I am going to have some piping-hot takes when this service comes out on November 1st, and you won’t wanna miss those. That’s right, I will selflessly watch a bunch of TV so that you don’t have to. Now, what’s the deal with Apple TV+?

Apple’s a luxury brand, right? And they’re producing premium content with big name actors, and that comes at a price, so if you’re gonna get HBO-level content, it’s gonna come at HBO-level prices, right? $15 a month, maybe $10 minimum? Well, actually, Apple set the price at $5 a month.

Now, they’ve got income from elsewhere in the company they can lean on, so taking a loss on Apple TV+ isn’t going to be a crisis, and no doubt that they wanted to undercut Disney+, which is set at $7 a month. Now, if it’s only $5 a month, that must mean

It’s at least somewhat commercial supported, right? Well, actually, no. No commercials on Apple TV+, plain and simple. Now, Apple’s not gonna wanna miss out on any market share that they can get, and so they’re gonna wanna put this on every device, available to anybody who already streams content.

Well, (laughs) no, Apple has always had trouble playing nice with others, and they’re not about to start now. They want you in their sandbox, playing with their toys, so you’ll be able to watch Apple TV+ on any device that supports the Apple TV app. iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, Macs, or iPod Touches,

Or is that iPods Touch? I’ve never been clear. Or you can watch it online at tv.apple.com. Now the one outside device that will support Apple TV+ is Samsung Smart TVs, and no, I don’t know why that is, either. But one piece of good news is that if you buy a new Apple device

In one of those categories, you get Apple TV+ free for a year. Silver linings, I guess. Now, wait, has Apple even given a hint of this yet? I don’t really have any expectations here, I just hope it’s not one simultaneous stream. Yeah, I wish I could drop a reality bomb here,

But unfortunately, we still don’t know how many simultaneous streams Apple TV+ will allow. Again, Apple is a luxury brand. They’re not gonna wanna skimp on their video or audio quality, right? Well, yes, exactly. Like most of its high-profile competitors, Apple TV+ will be available in 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision,

And most titles will stream with Dolby Atmos sound as well. Oh, and the latest model of the Apple TV just happens to support all of that, so hop in that sandbox, and never leave. So is Apple gonna be licensing any content from elsewhere? Seems like they’re just making their own stuff.

Seems like it’s gonna be a little sparse. Well, yeah, if it seems a little sparse that’s because frankly, it is. As of now, there’s been no word about licensing additional content. There have been 38 programs announced, but at launch, you’re only gonna get nine of those. That’s right, nine of them.

So, they better be good, I guess. The good news is, that yeah, they do look pretty good. “The Morning Show” has Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carell, “See” with Jason Momoa, “Dickenson” with Hailee Steinfeld. There’s an Oprah show, a “Ghost Rider” reboot, “For All Mankind” with Joel Kinnaman.

“Snoopy in Space”, “The Elephant Queen”, and last but not least, not “Sesame Street”. Anyway, like I said, it’s a pretty legit lineup. I just have my doubts about whether it will be enough to entice a lot of signups right away. I think they might be jumping the gun a little bit, honestly,

Just trying to get ahead of the Disney+ launch a little bit later in November. I guess we’ll see how it goes. So, lemme know what you’re gonna be looking forward to most with Apple TV+, if anything at all. Get your hype level in the comments below, don’t forget to like and subscribe

If you found this video useful. Thanks for watchin’, everybody, I’ll see ya next time.
